VONA Case Management, Inc. staff and family members had a busy day spoiling all of the teachers at Daphne Elementary today! Some of our VONA staff in south Alabama prepared and delivered treat bags for 45 teachers at the Baldwin County school. We filled the bags with Clorox wipes, Kleenex, GermX, highlighters, Sharpies, Post-its and Advil. These are items the teachers typically have to purchase for themselves.
A Department of Education survey published in May revealed that public school teachers in the United States spent an average of $480 of their own money on supplies in the 2014-2015 school year without reimbursement.
“Educators spend their own money on school supplies throughout the school year. Other professions don’t have to do that,” said Ryan Shirley, CEO of VONA Case Management. “Providing supplies to these teachers is the least we can do and we are glad to be able to help out.”
